How we talk to ourselves impacts us. The quotes I collect for the mixed media collage are used to convey a world view that embraces hard-won wisdom, compassion and personal growth. Even the pen and ink drawings convey the joy of connection to the elements of our lives through the richness of detailed pattern and colour. 

I have moved between many different art and craft forms in my life, always with delight at learning something new and becoming competent (if not pretty darn good) at them. I have knitted, quilted, done stained glass and mosaics, folk art painting and paint pouring. From there I discovered pen and ink and created the EarthDancers, slipped into mixed media collage to frame quotes collected over the years and then discovered quilling - creating coils from narrow paper strips and manipulating them into various shapes.

With paper becoming the new focus, I have also become interested in card making. They are an absolute delight to create, with endless possibilities and options. I will add a gallery for both the quilled pieces and the cards once I’ve organized photos of them.

I love that my art can contribute to self-awareness both within myself and within the viewer. As a mental health advocate, I want to support and strengthen a healthy internal dialogue. The layers I build in mixed media or in cards,  the tiny details of the pen and ink drawings, and even the colour and symmetry of quilling all contribute to a visual message that can help ground us in the world and within ourselves. Art can be both affirming and encouraging and really, we are all in this together.
